  1. By John Ndu : Anambra State Police Command has been assigned a
new Commissioner, following recent retirement of the predecessor,
Mr Sam Okaula, on age ground.

The new Police Commissioner, CP Garba Baba Umar,
yesterday resumed duty at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, and was received by the
management of the command led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in- charge of Administration and Finance, DCP Sokari Pedro.

The arrival of the new Police Commissioner was celebrated by a Guard of Honour, mounted by the
police at the Headquarters and was inspected by the new Commissioner.

The Guard of Honor was preceded by a formal handover by
his predecessor, Mr Sam Okaula, at the Commissioner’s office.

It was observed that the new commissioner who hails from
Kaduna state, was in Bauchi State before his new posting to
    Anambra State.

Performing the handover ceremony, the former Commissioner of Police, Mr Sam Okaula expressed satisfaction to
the state government for its endless support in the fight against crime and criminality.

Mr Okaula called for an unprecedented support to the new police boss who had been an internationally-acclaimed crime fighter, and had gained global
wealth of experience in the fight against crime and criminality.

He however enjoined journalists to collaborate with the new commissioner
and properly crosscheck their information before publishing, to ensure peaceful coexistence between press and the
    police.

Responding, the new Commissioner of Police, Garba Umar disclosed that the people of the state
deserve their right to peace and tranquility, saying it would be their responsibility as security agents that no threat
would undermine the quality of life they had been enjoying.

The new Police boss called on maximum support of all
and sundry to further sustain the tempo of security in the state, which
had adjudged it the safest state.

While acknowledging the efforts of Governor Obiano in providing the necessary
equipment to fight crime, C. P Umar promised to clamp down crime and criminality in the
state, which formed his basic responsibility.

    1. There is just little improvement in security of Anambra state. Stealing and kidnapping are still going on. The present government in Anambra state does not understand what real security is all about. Having numerous road checkpoints, police and soldiers on the road do not improve security of a state. If you doubt it, go to Borno state.

It is a pity that present government in the state does not understand what is called community policing. It is only when we have good community policing that our security will really improve.
